In 2010, Beck aired a two-part anti-Soros television program, titled The Puppet Master. Beck’s anti-Soros campaign reached a whole new level of vile ignorance of history not previously seen on television. In recent memory, this program is the first time that a network (Fox News) leveraged a calculated, factually inaccurate, anti-semitic campaign against a holocaust survivor. During this bizarre, inflammatory program, Beck stated that Soros, a Jewish teenager, collaborated with the nazis during the holocaust because the official Soros stayed with was required to confiscate Jewish properties. Beck stated that George Soros helped send Jews to death camps during World War II. Beck’s remarks were blatantly anti-semitic while he, at the same time, accused Soros of antisemitism.

Shortly after this program aired, many criticized Glen Beck, including the Anti-Defamation League, for characterizing Soros wartime activities in a factually incorrect manner. According to The Daily Beast, the Anti-Defamation League’s national director, Abraham Foxman is a holocaust survivor. Foxman states he is outraged and offended over Glen Beck’s ridiculous accusations against Soros during the time Soros was a child in nazi-occupied Hungary. Foxman considers Beck’s accusations to be inaccurate, appalling and wildly inappropriate. It is unhinged and wrong to fault a young, Jewish boy for doing what he must do to survive a war. Soros was not responsible for what was happening around him during the holocaust.

Glen Beck’s obnoxious, crackpot attack on George Soros is the epitome of the trivialization of the holocaust and those that survived it. As The Nation points out, Glen Beck’s anti-semitic, inflammatory television program would not have aired because it is not legal to use nazi imagery and themes in order to malign Jews, particularly a holocaust survivors.
