Lacey and Larkin Frontera Fund’s Commitment to Supporting the Minority

Lacey and Larkin Frontera Fund is a charity organization that has developed an excellent reputation for the financial assistance that it offers to organizations that have dedicated themselves to fighting for the rights of minorities across the United States. The foundation was established by two Arizona-based journalists who are as Michael Lacey and Jim Larkin. The duo also own Phoenix New Times and Village Voice Media, which are leading news based enterprises in the region.

In 2007, Jim and Mike were arrested by the authorities for publishing a story that shed light on a corrupt grand jury that covered the wrongdoings of the Maricopa County Sheriff, Joe Arpaio. The area sheriff used to abuse his power by enacting immigration at highway checks and illegally profiling immigrants. He went to the homes of Michael and Jim at night and arrested them for allegedly exposing the secrets of the grand jury.

The grand jury was determined to work against journalists or any other individual who published a story about the sheriff and his abuse of power. The malicious charges that had been filed against Jim and Michael were later withdrawn by Andrew Thomas, who was the county’s attorney general at that time. The two journalists decided to sue the Maricopa County government since they felt like their First Amendment rights had been violated by the sheriff departments.

The case was heard at the US Court of Appeal, which ruled for Michael and Jim. The federal judge did not see any valid reason why the sheriff arrested the journalists, and therefore, the government offered them $3.75 million. The money helped them in establishing the Lacey and Larkin Frontera Fund, which they have been using in supporting minorities across Arizona. For many years now, it has been mobilizing volunteers from different parts to travel to the desert and place many water points along the routes that immigrants use when traveling to the United States. It has also been offering trips to the Mexican border to enable people to acquire more knowledge about border policy.

The activities of the Border Angels have been highly beneficial to several immigrants who are currently based in San Diego County. The organization has enabled the immigrants to access free legal services at its offices every Tuesday.

Border Angels has been making sure that there is justice and has been striving to disapprove the lies that people tell about emigrants. In 2014, there was a crisis when several unaccompanied children tried to cross into the United States through the Central American border.

The organization offered to give them tons of food, clothes, toys, and books. It also campaigned against anti-immigrant protestors who didn’t want the children to be processed at the Riverside Border.
