To date, Mr. Lavin, has built a very prestigious profile due to his incredible work ethic, supreme foresight, and ability to grow his company to virtually unimaginable heights. Mr. Lavin stays abreast and active of nearly every avenue concerning OSI Group.
It was in 1970 that Mr. Lavin was first introduced to the world of meat and food processing when he was asked to help finance the up and coming company, Otto and Son’s, for the building of a new food processing facility. Prior to 1970, Mr. Lavin had been heavily involved in the banking industry, becoming a high ranking executive and successful investor, while also heading a thriving financial consultant firm. When Mr. Lavin decided to help finance Otto and Son’s, he was initially hesitant to become a full partner, instead deciding to stay on as a consultant. He was unaware that his involvement with Otto and Son’s would eventually be the move that solidified his reputation in business world. Upon Mr. Lavin joining Otto and Son’s, which would eventually become OSI Group by the middle of the 1980’s, he decided that if he were to be a part of this company, he would help to make it an international powerhouse. Soon after becoming a majority stake holder in OSI Group, Mr. Lavin expanded the company to several untapped markets, including China, South Africa, Australia, and the Philippines.
Recently, in 2016, Mr. Lavin was recognized by India’s Vision World Academy and presented with the Global Visionary Award for the significant strides he and his company have taken in terms of growth. Mr. Lavin was also recognized by RSM US LLP in 2015 when he was given a Lifetime Achievement Award for his work in the Chicago business community. Today, OSI Group continues to thrive in terms of business relations, as well as employee retention. Many would credit this to Mr. Lavin’s family oriented approach to running the company.
